"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Power concedes nothing without a demand . . . It never has, and it never will . . ." ~ Frederick Douglass

The Institute for the Study of Race, Law and Public Policy is a research center whose mission is to develop and disseminate information and knowledge in an effort to influence the intersection of race, law and public policy.

The Institute is dedicated to research, teaching and service, and seeks to effect change by comprehending the condition of historically underrepresented people of color as they are affected by, and they affect, law and public policy.

Because of the complexity of contemporary race/ethnic issues, the Institute draws on the abilities of scholars and researchers from all academic disciplines and strongly encourages interdisciplinary research that adds to our knowledge about the interaction among groups of color as well as interaction of these groups within a majority society.
